IIT Delhi Showcases Cutting-Edge Innovation at Bharat Innovates 2026

At Bharat Innovates 2026, India’s flagship innovation exhibition held in Nice, France, IIT Delhi emerged as one of the major attractions, unveiling breakthrough technologies in AIhealthcare, and defense while significantly expanding its global footprint . The three-day event, jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, brought together universities, research institutions, startups, investors, and industry leaders from across the world .

🔬 Breakthrough Technologies on Display

IIT Delhi presented a diverse portfolio of innovations developed by its researchers and startups across multiple sectors, including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, healthcare, defense, smart textiles, energy, and sustainable products . The exhibits attracted strong interest from global technology companies, investors, policymakers, and academic institutions, underlining the institute’s growing role in translating research into real-world applications and commercial solutions .

AI-Powered Aerospace Innovation

A standout achievement was the announcement of a strategic partnership between CYRAN-AI, a deep-tech startup linked to IIT Delhi, and French aerospace and defense major Safran Aircraft Engines . The collaboration will deploy advanced Edge AI technologies in precision manufacturing and aero-engine maintenance operations .

Harish Salve, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Delhi, highlighted the significance of this partnership in an exclusive interview with NDTV:

“One of the MoUs from this project was between a professor of IIT and a manufacturer of aircraft engines in France. The IIT professor’s startup has been taken on by a major manufacturer of aircraft engines, who builds aircraft engines also for various purposes in France, and their AI is being used for developing and monitoring these engines.”

Salve emphasized the reverse dynamics of this collaboration: “People say that we are dependent on their technology. If Indian AI is used for their engine, they will become dependent on our technology. So can you imagine the soft power this will bring?”

Neuromorphic AI and Smart Sensing

CYRAN-AI also signed an agreement with Dutch semiconductor company Innatera to develop ultra-low-power neuromorphic AI systems for intelligent sensing and wearable technologies . This partnership positions IIT Delhi-linked startups at the forefront of next-generation AI hardware.

Healthcare and Defense Innovations

IIT Delhi showcased a wide array of healthcare technologies developed through its Medical Cobotics Centre (MCC), a Centre of Excellence for training and R&D in healthcare technologies that also nurtures startups driving medical innovation . The institute’s Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) continues to bridge academic excellence with real-world impact, as articulated by COO Tarun Chaturvedi: “While IIT Delhi generates cutting-edge research, our mandate is to translate these assets into deployable technologies and investable ventures” .

The institute is also deeply engaged in defense innovation, including research on Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technologies with strategic implications for national security . In May 2026, IIT Delhi experts participated in a conference on BCI jointly organised with the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, exploring applications in augmenting cognitive capabilities, improving human performance, and strengthening command-and-control systems .

🌍 Expanding International Partnerships

IIT Delhi significantly expanded its global footprint at Bharat Innovates 2026 by signing memoranda of understanding with Institut Polytechnique de Paris, Institut Mines-Télécom, and Université Grenoble Alpes . Its technology transfer arm, FITT, also entered into partnerships with French innovation organisations DDI Incubator, Racine ds France, and G2i Ventures to promote collaboration between the entrepreneurial ecosystems of the two countries .

French President Emmanuel Macron himself referred to IIT Delhi’s collaboration with Sorbonne University as an example of the deepening India-France partnership in higher education, research, and innovation .

🚀 Incubator Innovation Bridge

IIT Delhi played a prominent role in shaping the broader innovation agenda at the event. Along with IIT Bombay, it served as co-chair of the Incubator Innovation Bridge—a global platform designed to connect startups, incubators, universities, investors, and research organisations . The initiative aims to facilitate mentoring, startup exchanges, and cross-border technology transfer, helping deep-tech ventures access international markets and growth opportunities .

🏗️ Building a Future-Ready Innovation Pipeline

IIT Delhi’s presence at Bharat Innovates 2026 reflects a broader strategy of strengthening India’s deep-tech innovation pipeline. Through initiatives like the IHFC READY (Research, Entrepreneurship and Development for Youth) Program, the institute provides pre-seed incubation, mentorship, and funding of up to ₹5 lakh for students working on deep-tech projects in areas such as cobotics, AI, drones, and autonomous systems .

The institute has also repositioned industry partners as co-creators rather than late-stage customers, addressing the challenge that “breakthrough technologies often fail not due to technical gaps, but due to missing adoption pathways” . This shift from a transactional incubation model to a structured venture-building framework is enabling IIT Delhi to nurture startups that can scale globally.

💬 Voices from the Event

Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, articulated the institute’s vision:

*”Bharat Innovates 2026 marks a significant step forward in positioning India’s innovation ecosystem on the global stage. We believe there is strong synergy in our research and innovation partnerships with French universities, and together we can innovate and co-create solutions for India, France and beyond. The recognition of IIT Delhi’s collaboration with Sorbonne University, the International Solar Alliance, and the new partnerships established through multiple MoUs reflect our commitment to building strong, long-term international collaborations.”*

Harish Salve added that Bharat Innovates could evolve into a recurring annual brand, showcasing 100–120 new startups every year to the world .

✨ The Final Word

IIT Delhi’s showcase at Bharat Innovates 2026 demonstrated how academic innovation is increasingly fueling India’s startup ecosystem and deep-tech growth, bridging research with entrepreneurship . By forging global partnerships, showcasing world-class technologies, and fostering industry-academia collaboration, IIT Delhi is positioning itself as a catalyst for India’s global innovation leadership. As Salve put it, “For the first time, we are showing India can be a supplier of technology” .
