Bluehill.VC Closes ₹400 Crore Frontier-Tech Fund, Backing India’s Deep Tech Revolution

Chennai-based venture capital firm Bluehill.VC has announced the final close of its maiden frontier-tech fund at ₹400 crore, including the full exercise of a ₹50 crore greenshoe option. The fund has already deployed over ₹100 crore across seven startups, with plans to invest another ₹80 crore over the next six months .

Institutional Backing and Strategic Focus

The fund has drawn strong participation from institutional investors including SIDBI, the governments of Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, alongside family offices, entrepreneurs, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals from India and the Middle East . The firm received interest from a broader pool of investors than it could accommodate, and plans to engage with them for its next fund, scheduled for 2027 .

“For the past two decades, venture capital has largely been driven by consumer, software and internet businesses. We believe the next wave of enduring value will be created by companies solving hard engineering and scientific problems.” — Manu Iyer, Managing Partner & Co-founder, Bluehill.VC

Investment Thesis: From Seed to Series A

Bluehill.VC invests from Seed to Series A in startups building proprietary technologies across sectors including :

  • Energy and Electric Vehicles
  • Semiconductors and Advanced Materials
  • Defence and Space
  • Robotics and Industrial Technologies
  • Nuclear and IoT

The fund aims to build a concentrated portfolio of 15–16 companies, with an average first cheque of $1–2 million . The firm follows an “invest-and-build” approach, combining capital with deep operational engagement to help founders build globally competitive businesses .

Early Portfolio: Defining Frontier Technologies

Bluehill.VC‘s portfolio already reflects its thesis, with investments including :

StartupFocus Area
EtherealXReusable launch systems for space transportation
Zebu Intelligent SystemsCounter-drone technology, working with Indian Armed Forces
HelexAdvanced therapeutics for genetic kidney diseases
Sophrosyne TechnologiesFabless semiconductor startup building biosensing SoCs

“Frontier-tech investing requires a different kind of conviction. These companies take longer to build, demand deeper technical understanding and solve problems that few others are willing to tackle.” — Sridhar Parthasarathy, Managing Partner & Co-founder, Bluehill.VC

The Frontier-Tech Moment

The fund’s close comes as India’s deep-tech ecosystem matures. Total funding in the sector surged to **$2 billion** in the first eight months of 2026, up from $1.6 billion in 2025, even as deal volumes declined—reflecting a more selective, high-conviction investment approach Bluehill.VC‘s focus on proprietary technology, long gestation periods, and founders emerging from research laboratories, manufacturing clusters, and defence programs signals a structural shift toward science-led innovation.

Founded in 2024 by Manu Iyer and Sridhar Parthasarathy, Bluehill.VC is positioning itself at the frontier of India’s next wave of deep-tech entrepreneurship—where companies don’t just participate in global markets, but define them .
