Tripura Expands Startup Support Initiatives

Tripura is making significant strides in building a structured startup ecosystem, positioning itself as an emerging innovation hub in Northeast India. The state government has rolled out a series of initiatives spanning incubation infrastructure, mentorship networks, and funding opportunities—creating a comprehensive support system for entrepreneurs across the region.
🚀 India’s First State Innovation Mission
In a landmark move, Tripura became the first state in India to launch a State Innovation Mission (SIM) under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) 2.0 programme, marking a decisive step toward embedding innovation and entrepreneurship into the state’s long-term development framework . The mission, anchored by the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) under the Good Governance Department, is designed as a long-term institutional mechanism to build a robust, inclusive, and context-specific innovation ecosystem aligned with national priorities and local strengths .
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh described the launch of SIM in Tripura as a “natural progression” of AIM, an initiative envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Recalling that the concept of innovation missions was once unfamiliar in government systems, he noted that AIM has transformed into a nationwide movement over the last several years .
🏗️ T-NEST: Tripura’s Flagship Incubation Hub
A key highlight of the State Innovation Mission is the inauguration of T-NEST (Tripura – Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Startups) , the state’s first premier incubation and innovation facility . Located in Hapania, Agartala, T-NEST serves as a central platform connecting government, educational institutions, industry, and investors to promote startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship in Tripura .
T-NEST is designed to support startups through structured, cohort-based programmes, sector-specific accelerator tracks, mentorship networks, and investor engagement platforms . The hub is expected to provide young entrepreneurs with access to policy sandboxes, government pilot facilitation, and funding opportunities .
🤝 Strategic Partnership with T-Hub
To bring national-level expertise to the state, Tripura has partnered with T-Hub, India’s premier startup incubator, to design and operationalise structured incubation frameworks and institutional support systems . Under the agreement, T-Hub will support the development of the Incubation Centre and Innovation Park, prepare Detailed Project Reports, roll out acceleration programmes, and facilitate mentor exchanges, leadership workshops, and curated investor connect platforms .
Jeya Ragul Geshan B., Director (IT) and Head of Startup Tripura, noted that the partnership reflects the state’s commitment to building a future-ready startup ecosystem anchored in institutional frameworks and founder-focused support systems .
🌾 Rural Entrepreneurship and Women-Led Growth
Tripura is also focusing on grassroots entrepreneurship. The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has unveiled an ambitious action plan for 2026–27, aiming to transform the rural non-farm sector into a robust engine of economic growth . Key initiatives include:

📈 Startup Growth and Recognition
Tripura’s startup ecosystem has shown steady momentum. The state today has over 150 registered startups, recording an average growth of around 66% in startup recognitions over the last five years . A significant share of these ventures is women-led, positioning Tripura as a leader in gender-inclusive innovation in the Northeast .
The state also has a strong MSME base, with more than 3.13 lakh registered MSMEs on the Udyam portal as of early 2026, including over 1.18 lakh formal Udyam registrations .
🏛️ Institutional Support and Incubation Infrastructure
Tripura is building a robust institutional framework to support entrepreneurs:

The incubator successfully organized Startup Kumbh 2026, a national-level entrepreneurial conclave where 15 startups were selected for incubation support and five secured funding commitments worth ₹25 lakh, with an overall investment intent of nearly ₹2.5 crore .
🔮 Vision for the Future
Tripura’s vision extends beyond immediate incubation support. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has proposed creating an Eastern Start-up Corridor and establishing a North East Industrial Free Trade Authority to boost cross-border cluster diplomacy .
