IInvenTiv 2026 Inaugurated at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad: 150+ Innovations Set to Bridge Academic Research with Global Markets

In a significant push to transform India’s academic research into commercial success, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar inaugurated the two-day IInvenTiv 2026 innovation fair at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, on Monday .

Positioned as a transformative platform to link research, innovation, investment, and policy, the event is designed to act as a national feeder for the prestigious Bharat Innovates 2026 global summit scheduled to be held in Nice, France, from June 14-16 .

A Grand Showcase of Deep-Tech Talent

The scale of IInvenTiv 2026 reflects the deepening innovation pipeline within India’s premier institutes. The event features:

  • Over 150 Innovations: Showcased across critical sectors including Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductor technology, healthcare, material sciences, and earth sciences .
  • Extensive Participation: More than 50 startups are engaging with over 20 venture capital firms and leading academic institutions such as IITs, NITs, IISc, and IISERs .

“The platform aims to create a pipeline through which innovations can be validated, scaled, and connected to industry and global markets,” said Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad . He emphasized that IInvenTiv 2026 is not just about showcasing tech, but about ensuring it moves from the lab to real-world impact.

Bridging the ‘Valley of Death’

One of the most critical gaps in deep-tech ecosystems is the transition from a successful prototype to a market-ready product—often called the “valley of death.” IInvenTiv 2026 is explicitly structured to bridge this gap.

Beyond the exhibition, the summit offers tangible pathways to commercialization:

  • Startup Pitching & Investor Matchmaking: Direct connections between founders and venture capitalists to secure funding .
  • Academia-to-Business (A2B) Meetings: Structured sessions designed to translate research into industrial applications .
  • Centers of Excellence (CoEs): The event marked the launch of two major CoEs. The ReNew Centre of Excellence focuses on skilling and green energy transition for coal-dependent communities, while the Wadhwani Innovation Network Centre of Excellence drives research in critical minerals and advanced manufacturing .

The Road to France: Bharat Innovates 2026

A key strategic objective of IInvenTiv 2026 is its role as a launchpad for Bharat Innovates 2026. This initiative, under the Ministry of Education, will take 100-120 curated Deep Tech startups to Nice, France, to showcase Indian innovation on a global platform .

The vision is to create an integrated national-to-global innovation pipeline—where domestic research excellence is validated and scaled internationally, supporting India’s ambition to become a global hub for deep-tech .

Voices from the Inauguration

The inaugural session highlighted a strong consensus on the need for indigenous innovation.

  • Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar stressed that India’s progress toward a developed economy depends on translating research into practical outcomes and employment, urging innovators to align with national initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat .
  • Vaishali Nigam Sinha (ReNew) termed IInvenTiv a reflection of “New India’s intellectual ambition,” noting that the transition to green energy must be inclusive and skill-driven .
  • Sandeep Kumar (Tata Steel) described IIT (ISM) as a “cradle of innovation,” emphasizing that curiosity-driven thinking is the foundation of industrial progress .

The Final Word

IInvenTiv 2026 is more than a summit; it is a testament to the maturation of India’s R&D landscape. By moving beyond theory and focusing on commercialization, investor access, and global scaling, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is setting a benchmark for how academic institutions can act as true catalysts for the startup economy.

As the event concludes its pitching and matchmaking sessions today, the selected innovations will prepare to take flight to France, signaling that India’s deep-tech revolution is ready for the world.
